A police officer was arrested for allegedly robbing a businesswoman in Barangay Nalibunan, Abuyog town, Leyte province this week.
Investigation said the victim, Lenny, a 30-year-old businesswoman from Barangay Pagsang-an, Abuyog, was robbed while purchasing vegetables from a truck.
The suspect, wearing a black raincoat, snatched her necklace with a pendant valued at P42,000 and a black belt bag containing approximately P15,000 cash.
An off-duty police officer, who was near the scene, responded to the victim’s cries for help.
He attempted to stop the suspect but he brandished a short firearm, prompting the police officer to shoot.
The suspect was wounded and managed to escape on a motorcycle.
The Abuyog Municipal Police Station (MPS) received information from the Javier Municipal Police Station that a man with a bullet wound was admitted to the Baybay City Hospital.
The Abuyog MPS went to the hospital and arrested the suspect, identified as a 37-year-old police master sergeant assigned to Eastern Samar Police Provincial Office and residing in Zone 1, Javier.
Authorities recovered a black motorcycle, a Philippine National Police-issued firearm with a loaded magazine, raincoat allegedly worn during the robbery, and P7,720 in cash from the suspect.
Follw-up investigation is ongoing.
