BAGUIO CITY – This city is bracing for the impact of oncoming tropical cyclone “Uwan.”
Mayor Benjamin Magalong has suspended classes on Monday, Nov. 10, when the storm is expected to slam into Luzon.
Magalong also suspended vehicle number coding to enable residents to use their vehicles in times of emergency.
He said concerned agencies are currently conducting Pre-Disaster Risk Assessment (PDR) and reminded all barangays to implement precautions.
Garbage collection will be suspended two days before the expected landfall to prevent garbage from spreading and clogging drainage systems.
Residents were advised not to throw their garbage during this period and ensure that these are properly secured to help reduce flooding and maintain cleanliness.
Emergency response equipment has been prepared in all barangays. Each barangay has an “orange box” containing essential emergency supplies, while communication equipment will be distributed two days before to ensure smooth coordination of response operations.
City response teams and personnel led by the City Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (CDRRMC) are fully prepared and well-equipped to deal with any emergency that may arise.
Magalong assured the people that the city is prepared for Uwan. He advised them to take all necessary measures to protect themselves and their properties.
People living in areas identified as highly or very vulnerable to landslide and flood hazards were urged to follow evacuation orders and other instructions from officials.
