5 reasons to love Seiko PH's latest limited-edition timepieces
Let me give you five reasons
By Dom Galeon
Days prior to Halloween, Seiko unveiled its latest Philippine limited-edition timepieces. Yes, you read that right. Timepieces. Plural. For its sixth year, the Japanese watch brand chose to release not one, not two, but three watches.
Celebrating Luzon, Visayas, and Mindanao, the three limited edition timepieces are not diver’s watches—as has been the case with four of the five past PH-only limited-edition pieces, which were all from the Prospex line—but are GMTs under the brand’s historied Seiko 5 line. These are available in white (inspired by Vigan’s Calle Crisologo, for Luzon), green (like the colors of Bohol’s Chocolate Hills, for Visayas), and blue (patterned after the waves along the coastline of Zamboanga, for Mindanao) dial versions.
What distinguishes the watches from each other, apart from the dial colors, are their bezels. The Luzon piece has black and light brown, the Visayas one has black and a darker shade of brown, while the Mindanao watch has black and blue.
Reason no. 1: Case size
Each timepiece is built from Seiko’s increasingly popular Seiko 5 Sports SKX GMT line, which comes in a 42.5 millimeter case size. Though large in paper, these watches wear small on the wrist. Because of how Seiko does its lugs for the SKX line, these GMTs wear like 40 mm or even feel like they are 39 mm on my not-so-thick wrist. They also come in stainless steel presidential bracelets, adding a premium feel to the otherwise inexpensive watches.
Reason no. 2: Color choices
The white, green, and blue dial colors represent what Seiko says is this year’s theme, which is all about movement and lifestyle. Personally, my favorite is the Luzon piece. There is something about white dials that makes them look just perfect.
It looks very similar to the regular Seiko 5 Sports GMT white dial (or the SSK033), except for the difference in the bezel colors, as the Luzon GMT has a brown lower half instead of the usual blue. Its white dial, however, makes it a great option for everyday wear as well as for more dressier occasions. It’s the perfect beater watch that I can just readily pick up when I don’t feel like thinking about which of my watches to wear on any given day.
Reason no. 3: Cost
More appealing still are the prices. While the regular SKX Sports 5 GMTs retail around P26,000, these limited-edition timepieces are priced a tad bit higher at P30,000. In the world of watches that are actually worth anything, this is a bargain—you get to pick one of these watches that are limited to 1,000 pieces each. Those who came to the launch last Oct. 28, 2025, at the Glorietta 2 Activity Center, and bought all three got a pick, which number they got to bring home that day.
Reason no. 4: Collectibility
True to the Seiko 5 identity, these limited-edition watches have the usual Seiko 5 logo on the dial, a date window instead of the usual day-date (similar to the other Seiko 5 GMT watches, an open caseback revealing the 4R34 automatic caliber that powers the timepiece, water resistance of up to 100 meters (10 bar), and the crown on the 4 o’clock position.
Reason no. 5: ‘Cause it's Seiko (sorry, I ran out of Cs)
Some might argue that being part of the Seiko 5 line might make them less appealing to more seasoned collectors. After all, the previous years’ releases all carried with them the premium stamp that came with the Prospex line. But that really depends on which collector you are talking to.
The Seiko 5 collection has, in recent years, received its fair share of pomp while maintaining a more affordable price range—and the recently released SKX GMT is the best example to prove this point, as it has been hailed by watch enthusiasts the world over as one of the most premium timepieces from the more affordable side of the luxury watch spectrum.
And these are the reasons why I find these limited edition Seiko 5 watches appealing. These are perfect for long-time watch collectors, Seiko fans, and even the budding enthusiast who is just getting into the beautiful world of watches and horology. After all, Seiko is the gateway watch brand for many collectors.
The Seiko Philippines sixth limited-edition watches are available in all Seiko stores in the country.
