Cignal displayed an all-around game and downed Akari, 25-21, 23-25, 25-20, 25-20, at the start of its second phase campaign in the Premier Volleyball League Reinforced Conference at the Filoil EcoOil Arena in San Juan City on Thursday, Nov. 6.

The Super Spikers banked on the hard-hitting plays of import Katrin Trebichavska and the solid floor defense from libero Dawn Catindig to notch their third win in six games.

The victory not only tied Cignal with its victims at seventh, but also bolstered its quarterfinal drive.

Trebhichavska exploded with a 25-point performance highlighted by 22 attacks, somehow overcoming the tough defensive wall put by Akari’s Annie Mitchem and Fifi Sharma at the net.

Catindig, for her part, took over their defensive side, managing 25 excellent digs.

The veteran libero said their team chemistry showed in their game.

“Yung connection namin sa loob yung pinanghahawakan namin at pina-practice namin. We were there at the right time,” said Catindig.

Cignal coach Shaq Delos Santos also lauded his stalwarts, as all their efforts over the past days paid off.

“Alam ko kung gaano kahirap yung binibigay nilang effort sa practice nitong last three days kaya masaya ako na nakuha namin yung resulta na gusto namin,” Delos Santos said.

So impressive were the Super Spikers that three other players scored in double figures with Erika Santos pumping in 19 points, and Roselyn Aquino and Ishie Lalongisip chipping in 11 and 12 points, respectively.

They also overpowered Akari on attacks, 63-50.

Mitchem scored 22 points, while Sharma added 13 points in a losing cause for the Chargers, who absorbed their second straight defeat.
