P1.1-BILLION worth of illegal drugs was destroyed in Zamboanga City.
ZAMBOANGA CITY – The Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency destroyed P1.1-billion worth of dangerous drugs here on Thursday, Nov. 6.
These were destroyed through thermal decomposition or incineration.
This was the largest drug destruction event in the region to date, covering illegal drugs seized in Zamboanga City, Pagadian City, Zamboanga del Sur, Isabela City, Basilan, and Iligan City.
The cache was composed of 1.6 tons of shabu worth P1.1 billion at P6.8 million per kilo and marijuana and ephedrine, valued at P794,944.36 and P1,400.13, respectively.
"The destruction of these dangerous substances is a crucial step in our efforts to rid our communities of the scourge of drug abuse and trafficking," Dangerous Drugs Board Chairman Secretary Oscar F. Valenzuela said.
All dangerous drugs destroyed were covered by court orders.
