BACOLOD CITY – The Negros Electric and Power Corp. (NEPC) is aiming to fully restore electricity over the weekend to 217,000 consumers in its franchise area affected by typhoon “Tino.”

NEPC said that 87.01 percent or 217,577 customers in 35 feeders experienced power interruptions.

At present, 38.1 percent have been re-energized while 61.9 percent remain without power.

Damage assessment revealed 271 damaged conductors, 96 poles, 23 crossarms, 15 insulators, and 201 cases of vegetation obstruction in this city, Talisay City, Silay City, Murcia, Bago City, and Don Salvador Benedicto.

This city sustained the most severe damage – 175 conductors and 65 poles.

NEPC chief operations officer Bailey del Castillo said they continue to assess the full extent of the damage.

The blackout was caused by toppled poles and trees which led to short circuits when power lines came into contact during the height of the storm.

NEPC said clearing operations involve removing vegetation, fixing downed wires, and addressing fallen poles or hazards to make areas safe for re-energization.

No specific area will be energized until clearing work is completed to ensure safety for both consumers and personnel.

Del Castillo said that 70 teams or about 350 personnel have been working round-the-clock to restore electricity, prioritizing hospitals, water facilities, and other critical loads.

“Our teams have been working tirelessly since the typhoon struck. We are prioritizing critical areas while continuing repairs in residential zones as conditions allow,” he said, thanking consumers for their patience and understanding.

NEPC reminded consumers to stay vigilant and report any downed power lines or electrical hazards.

“We know how vital electricity is, especially in times like this,” Del Castillo said. “Every light we restore means one more family back to safety and normalcy.”
