Napolcom dismisses police major over sexual assault on PNPA cadet
A middle-ranking police officer was dismissed from the service after he was found guilty on the case of sexual assault filed by a cadet of the Philippine National Police Academy (PNPA).
In a statement, the National Police Commission (Napolcom) said the policeman is an officer with a rank of Major and was an instructor of the PNPA when the incident happened on July 31.
The complaint stemmed from the complaint of a cadet who accused his instructor of sexual assault inside the PNPA.
Aside from the statement of the cadet, Napolcom vice chairman and executive officer Rafael Calinisan said the decision also relied on the corroborating affidavits of two police officers who found the cadet distressed at the scene.
“The Napolcom will never condone any act of sexual misconduct by anyone in the police force, regardless of rank. The acts are despicable and should be strongly condemned and punished. He is unfit to continue wearing the police uniform,” Calinisan said.
The police major was found guilty of Grave Misconduct under Article 336 of the Revised Penal Code (Acts of Lasciviousness) and a serious breach of ethical standards that brought dishonor to the PNPA.
“He was dismissed from the service, The acts of immorality and abuse of power have no place in the police force," said Calinisan.
