MPower, the retail electricity unit of Manila Electric Co. (Meralco), has secured a deal to supply power to the 150-hectare industrial park in Cavite through the Energy Regulatory Commission’s (ERC) new Retail Aggregation Program (RAP).

MPower is partnering with the First Cavite Industrial Estate Association, Inc. (FCIE) to consolidate the estate’s energy demand, allowing the mixed-use development to customize its power supply procurement. The capacity to be supplied by MPower was not immediately disclosed.

The RAP, an initiative introduced by the ERC earlier this year, permits end-users within the same franchise area to pool their demand to meet the 500-kilowatt (kW) threshold. Meeting this benchmark allows them to qualify as "contestable customers" and select their own power supplier at a competitive rate.

Micaela Laila Flores, FCIE president, stated the collaboration is a “strategic step toward advancing sustainability and operational excellence in the industrial sector.”

“It reflects FCIE’s steadfast vision to be a leading industrial estate with energy-efficient solutions and responsible practices that shape a resilient and future-ready economy,” Flores said in a statement.

Redel Domingo, head of MPower, called the FCIE’s entry into the contestable market a boost for energy collaboration nationwide.

“By consolidating demand and adopting more efficient power solutions, this partnership advances sustainable progress,” Domingo said. “MPower is proud to support this vision with reliable energy that empowers industries, strengthens communities, and fuels enduring value.”

FCIE, located in Dasmariñas, was designed to serve the manufacturing needs of the light-to-medium scale industry.

The development is a joint venture among the National Development Co. (NDC), Marubeni Corp., and Japan International Development Organization.

MPower currently holds approximately a 30 percent share of the competitive retail market within the Meralco franchise area.
