The inmates raised white cloths and placards bearing messages such as “Media ibaba si warden (Media, bring the warden down),” “F**k the system” to call attention to their grievances.
According to one of the inmates’ relatives, the protest stemmed from complaints about the food, visitors, and warden’s management.
“Ang pinakaimportante po sa kanila ay ’yung tamang pagkain talaga, ’yun ’yung gusto nilang mangyari sa buhay nila diyan (What matters most to them is receiving proper food, that’s what they really want in there),” the relative said.
Malabon City Mayor Jeannie Sandoval along with newly appointed BJMP Chief Lucky Donisio conducts discussions with cell leaders to resolve the issues inside the facility.
Malabon City Mayor Jeannie Sandoval immediately visited the jail, accompanied by BJMP regional officials, to speak with the inmates and address their concerns.
Sandoval vowed to provide food packs for all PDLs and confirmed that the jail warden would be relieved from duty pending further investigation.
Newly appointed BJMP-Malabon Chief JCINSP. Lucky Donisio said discussions with cell leaders are underway to resolve the issues raised.
“Kinausap at kakausapin natin ’yung mga cell leaders dito sa facility para talakayin kung ano man po ’yung kanilang inirereklamo. Kung talagang legitimate ang kanilang mga concerns, aaksyunan naman natin (We have already talked to and will continue to talk with the cell leaders to discuss their complaints. If their concerns are legitimate, we will take action),” Donisio said.
He added that replacing the warden remains an option, as reassignments are part of BJMP’s standard procedures.
Donisio vowed to address and work on resolving the issues and requests raised by the PDLs.
