Ducanes wins gold in Batang Pinoy

Pia Ducanes of Pasig City seized the gold medal in the Batang Pinoy 2025 cadet girls singles (14-15 years old) table tennis at the Lagao Gym in General Santos City.
Ducanes topped the championship match by beating Erich Bianca Torzar of Quezon, 12-14, 11-6, 11-4, 11-5, to emerge as the best from the 108 players that were entered in the competition.
Ducanes swept Group 10 with victories over Samantha Guevarra of General Santos City and Faith Ayanna Vicedo of Antique.
After drawing a first-round bye, Ducanes started the knockout stage with a straight sets victory over Princess Clea Peria of Valenzuela, 11-7, 11-1, 11-7, and a win over Ylianna Jane Rodriguez of La Carlota City, 11-9, 11-13, 11-3, 11-8.
Ducanes earned her victory in the round-of-16, beating Nina Irish Dimailig of Quezon City in five sets, 11-8, 7-11, 11-5, 7-11, 11-9, to stay in the hunt for a gold medal in her campaign.
She beat Maria Justine Angelli Cruz of San Fernando, Pampanga, 11-2, 5-11, 11-5, 11-8, in the quarterfinals, and Khristren Star Villegas of Tarlac City, 13-11, 11-9, 9-11, 11-6.
Villegas and Sheirel Denise Siaboc of Quezon captured bronze medals by virtue of their semifinal appearance in the tournament.
