The Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) has mobilized all available resources to accelerate recovery and rehabilitation efforts in Cebu Province following the widespread flooding brought by typhoon “Tino.”
DPWH Secretary Vince Dizon said the agency is prepared to deploy heavy equipment and manpower to expedite clearing and declogging operations in severely affected areas.
“Ang sabi ng Pangulo, kung ano ang kailangan, ibigay sa mga mayors. We will provide everything. Sinabi ko na at their disposal na lahat [ng kagamitan] na nandito ngayon sa Cebu. Kahit anong distrito, basta kung ano ang kailangan, hingiin lang nila and ibibigay ng DPWH (The President said that whatever is needed must be given to the mayors. We will provide everything. I already told them that all the available equipment here in Cebu are at their disposal. Regardless of the district, whatever they need, they can request and DPWH will provide it),” Dizon said during his visit to Cebu City on Wednesday.
He directed the DPWH Central Visayas Office to mobilize backhoes, dump trucks, and other heavy equipment to clear main roads and restore traffic flow.
He said these efforts aim to ensure that relief goods and medical assistance can reach affected communities without delay.
Dizon added that declogging operations have started to remove mud and debris from rivers and drainage systems that overflowed during the heavy rains.
Several towns and cities in Cebu experienced unprecedented flooding earlier this week, submerging homes, sweeping away vehicles, and displacing thousands of residents.
The DPWH chief also inspected hard-hit areas, including communities near the Mananga River in Talisay City, where more than 3,000 families were displaced, and in Mandaue City, which reported around 5,000 affected households.
President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. earlier instructed government agencies to extend immediate aid and implement sustained recovery measures for affected areas in Cebu.
