How far are you willing to go to hide your darkest secrets?

ABS-CBN stars Kim Chiu and Paulo Avelino are set to return to Prime Video in a gripping murder-mystery romance titled “The Alibi,” which will begin streaming on Nov. 7.

After the success of their previous Prime Video series “Linlang,” Kim and Paulo will take on bold new roles that conceal deep, dark secrets.

Kim portrays Stella, a seductive escort and the sole provider for her struggling family. Her already challenging life becomes even more complicated when she unexpectedly encounters Vincent (Paulo), the heir to one of the country's most powerful digital news empire.

Their inappropriate encounter takes a twisted turn when it is revealed that Vincent is the prime suspect in a high-profile murder investigation involving his rival, Walter (Sam Milby). In a desperate attempt to salvage his tarnished reputation, Vincent strikes a million-peso deal with Stella to serve as his alibi.

As the two strangers become embroiled in an unconventional relationship shrouded in mystery, the search for the truth spirals into a dangerous spectacle. Hidden agendas emerge, and each suspect’s morals come under scrutiny.

During a one-on-one interview at ABS-CBN on Nov. 5, Kim reacted to her fans' comments that she took a daring approach in the series. In fact, if you watch the series' trailer, you will be surprised by how Kim has grown as an actress.

"Sa dami ng mga nangyayari ngayon sa mundo at napapanood sa streaming platform, I want to give something different to the audience or my supporters who grew up with me.

"So gusto ko talaga silang bigyan ng panibagong role. Ayoko sabihin nila napanood ko na yan or umulit ako ng role. Gusto ko may mapanood sila na magugulat sila at nagulat na nga sila. They can expect more if they watch it. (I really want to give them a new role. I don't want them to say I've seen that before or that I'm repeating a role. I wanted them to watch something that would surprise them, and they were indeed surprised. They can expect more if they watch it)," said Kim.

The Chinita Princess said she enjoyed doing the project because of several firsts: the first time she had done a suspense-thriller series, the first time she cut her hair short for a project, and the first time she played an entertainer.

On her role doing sexy dance, Kim said, 'Sumasayaw naman talaga ako like sa 'ASAP.' May background din naman ako sa pole dancing pero pinag-aralan ko pa rin ang mga dance sequence ko rito. So talagang pinaghandaan ko ito. (I really dance like in 'ASAP.' I also have a background in pole dancing, but I continued to study my dance sequences here. So I really prepared for it.)"

Paulo said his team had been discussing the project for the past year. He joined the project because of the story."It is so rare to see TV shows kung sino ba talaga ang may kagagawan nito? (It's so rare to see TV shows about whodunnits.) I've always wanted to work on a project like this, and we can certainly improve on it. I hope we were able to achieve that."

In doing the series, Paolo realized that being a journalist, in relation to his character, was a tough job. "Ang hirap pala maging journalist. Ang daming sinasabi and masyadong madetalye. So doon ako medyo na-challenge sa line related sa profession ng character ko."

When asked if he sees himself branching out to journalism in the future, Paolo answered, "Maybe not. Siguro pwede yung doing livestream. Ganun sigurong klase ng pananalita. Doing a livestream may be okay. Probably that kind of talk.)"

Paulo and Kim discussed the importance of honesty, a key issue in the series.

"When it comes to honesty, ang tumatak talaga sa akin noong bata pa ako is yung line na 'liars go to hell.' Palagay ko yun ang tumatak sa mga pangaral sa akin. (What really stuck with me when I was young was the line that 'liars go to hell.' I think that's what I remember the most)," the hunk actor said.

Kim said, "Minsan kasi kailangan rin magsinungaling para hindi ka masaktan. So kahit sabihin pa na magpaka-totoo ka, kahit paano kailangan magsinungaling para walang masaktan. (Sometimes you have to lie so you don't get hurt. So even if they tell you to be truthful, you still have to lie so no one gets hurt.)"

Asked about the most honest person she had ever met, Kim said, "Wala! Wala namang honest na tao eh. Everyone, kahit sino pa yan. Kailangan mag-alibi ka, to save yourself or your loved ones. So walang taong honest. (No! There's no honest person. Everyone, no matter who it is. You have to have an alibi to save yourself or your loved ones. So there's no honest person.)"

“The Alibi” features a stellar cast that includes John Arcilla, Zsa Zsa Padilla, Sofia Andres, Irma Adlawan, Rafael Rosell, Robbie Jaworski, Angelina Cruz, Alyanna Angeles, Alma Moreno, PJ Endrinal, Lotlot Bustamante, Ian de Leon, Romnick Sarmenta, Enzo Osorio, Ayesha Bajeta, Thou Reyes, Alora Sasam, Marvin Yap, Johaira Omar, Yesh Burce, and Kim Tubiano.

The series is directed by acclaimed directors Onat Diaz, Jojo Saguin, and FM Reyes, and under the production of ABS-CBN’s Dreamscape Entertainment.
