The Department of Human Settlements and Urban Development (DHSUD) led the distribution of land titles to some 700 families in Caloocan City on Thursday, Nov. 6, under the government’s mass housing projects.
DHSUD Secretary Jose Ramon Aliling said the ceremony underscored the government’s commitment to providing safe and affordable homes for Filipino families.
“The DHSUD, together with all our key shelter agencies, continues to advance and expand the Expanded 4PH Program so that more Filipino families can have their own safe and affordable homes for a more dignified life,” Aliling said, noting the event as a tangible outcome of the program.
The title distribution was conducted pursuant to Presidential Proclamation No. 366 covering the 149-hectare Tala Development Project.
Of this, 120 hectares were allotted to bona fide leprosy patients, censused families, and other qualified residents, while the remaining 29 hectares accommodate low-rise residential units and barracks.
The Tala Project traces its origins to 1995 under RA No. 7999, which declared portions of Tala Estate as alienable and disposable lands and tasked the National Housing Authority (NHA) to implement the program in coordination with the Department of Health and residents’ associations.
It was later expanded in 2000 through Proclamation No. 366 by President Joseph Estrada, adding 50 hectares for Hansen patients and their families.
Aliling highlighted the importance of coordination between national and local agencies in delivering housing programs.
