Widespread destruction, including the displacement of residents, damage to property and infrastructure, power and water service interruptions, and disruption of essential services, was noted.
According to the city government, the impact of the typhoon went beyond the local government’s response capacity, necessitating the mobilization of additional resources and assistance from external agencies to safeguard the welfare of affected residents.
As of Nov. 5, 12 persons were killed and 14 are missing in the city, with search and rescue operations still ongoing.
Most of the fatalities were recorded in Barangay Panubigan with nine and one death each in Barangays Malaiba, Bayog, and Masulog.
Eight missing persons were reported in Barangay Panubigan and two each in Barangays Mabigo, Malaiba, and Linothangan.
Over 300 families or close to 1,000 individuals were affected in multiple barangays.
Work in government offices and agencies resumed on Thursday as weather conditions improved.
The city government opened a donation center at the Canlaon City Pension House to assist families in need.
Priority relief items include potable water, kitchenware, milk, diapers, and fuel for heavy equipment and emergency vehicles.
“We urge everyone to remain alert and cooperate with authorities. Our thoughts and prayers are with the affected families,” the local government said in a statement.
The provincial government has organized a relief effort to support residents of Canlaon City affected by the storm.
Canlaon City is under a state of calamity since June 2024 due to the eruption of Kanlaon Volcano on June 3.
