BACOLOD CITY – The municipality of Toboso in Negros Occidental was placed under a state of calamity due to the severe impact of typhoon “Tino.”
The declaration was issued after the municipal council convened on Tuesday, Nov. 4, to assess the situation after the typhoon caused widespread damage.
The local government is mobilizing resources for rescue, relief, and rehabilitation efforts.
Eighty-five families or 300 individuals took shelter at the Salamanca Elementary School.
Mayor Richard Jaojoco issued an executive order extending the suspension of classes from Nov. 6 to 7 and will resume on Nov. 10 to give enough time for the Municipal Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (MDRRMO) to assess damage, including integral infrastructure and facilities.
Jaojoco reassured his constituents that he is closely monitoring the situation. “We are resilient and we will rise,” the mayor said.
