Gov. Eugenio Jose Lacson said on Wednesday that 13 people were killed and 31 were reported missing during the onslaught of typhoon “Tino” in Negros Occidental.
There were four fatalities in La Castellana, two in Murcia, three each in San Carlos City and Bago City, and one in La Carlota City.
Lacson said that two drowned, one was killed by a fallen tree, while the cause of death of the rest have yet to be determined.
He said police have yet to confirm the death toll. Lacson is hoping there will be no more casualties.
Seven individuals were missing in Bago City, six in La Carlota City, and 18 in La Castellana.
Search and rescue operations are ongoing. “We are hoping for the best, hoping to account all of them,” Lacson said.
Damage from the typhoon is yet to be determined.
Lacson said they have yet to determine the need to declare a state of calamity.
“The province will continue to assist as much as we could right now,” Lacson said.
Areas with evacuees will be provided with assistance.
