Expect a bigger Fil-Am Invitational in the City of Pines with the 75th edition promising the grandeur of competition and the best shape of both the Baguio Country Club and the John Hay Golf from Nov. 25 to Dec. 13.
With the organizers opening 40 slots for both the seniors and regular divisions, the yearly tradition, or better yet the annual golf trip to Baguio City of thousands of participants — some even foreign squads — remained intact and refined for a better experience in the two-week action.
"We're happy to be part of this magnificent event. It gives us great joy and happiness to celebrate the 75th year of this tournament. Hangga't may Fil-Am, nandiyan ang Januarius," said JJ Atencio, who is the chairman and CEO of the generous title sponsor, during a press conference Wednesday, Nov. 5.
From a field of 129 senior teams and 172 from the regulars, the two mountaintop courses welcomed 1,421 players from the championship divisions and from classes A to F, with the exception of the regulars adding a G to accommodate more avid golfers last year.
All eyes will be on Eastridge, which dethroned the Manila Southwoods in Fil Championship, while Luisista is keeping its tag as the team to beat in the seniors battle.
"Fil-Am only gets better, especially this 75th year. This is going to be the best," said tournament co-chairman and Baguio Country Club general manager Anthony de Leon, who was joined by his John Hay counterpart Eduardo Arguelles in presenting the details of competition.
For the prizes, two Mazda Miatas will be raffled off along with plenty of giveaways from other sponsors.
