Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) Secretary Vince Dizon on Wednesday, Nov. 5, ordered the swift restoration of public and critical facilities in Davao Oriental after the magnitude 7.4 earthquake struck the province in October.
Dizon said the rehabilitation aims to restore essential services and strengthen local government response during emergencies and future disasters.
President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. earlier directed the prompt rebuilding of affected structures.
“Basta lahat ng public facilities na kailangan natin i-repair, ang sabi ni Pangulo bilisan na natin ang pagrerepair at kailangan tibayan (All public facilities that need repair, the President said we should expedite the repairs and make them stronger),” Dizon said during his inspection of ongoing works.
“Kailangan mabilis ang pag-build back natin kasi kawawa naman ‘yung mga kababayan natin, lalo na ‘yung mga critical facilities natin kailangan bilisan na ‘yan (We need to speed up the build-back because our fellow citizens are suffering, especially regarding our critical facilities that must be repaired quickly),” he added.
Dizon visited the Evaristo Moralizon National Vocational High School, the Manay Municipal Hall, and the Davao Oriental Provincial Hospital in Cateel to monitor progress and ensure accelerated repair timelines.
He assured local officials that DPWH teams are fast-tracking repairs so residents can regain access to fully functional public services as soon as possible.
