CJ Gesmundo administers oath of office to 4 Court of Appeals, Sandiganbayan associate justices

Chief Justice Alexander G. Gesmundo administered the oath of office to four newly appointed associate justices of the Court of Appeals (CA) and the Sandiganbayan (SBN).
Sworn into office were CA Associate Justices Robert Victor Consunji Marcon and Snooky Maria Ana C. Bareno-Sagayo, and SBN Associate Justices Hans Chester Tiu Nocom and Fritz Bryn Anthony Makasiar Delos Santos.
The SC’s Office of the Spokesperson said the new associate justice were appointed by President Marcos last Sept. 23.
CA Associate Justice Marcon assumed the post left vacant with the appointment of Associate Justice Fernanda C. Lampas Peralta as CA presiding justice.
CA Associate Justice Sagayo, on the other hand, succeeded Associate Justice Jacinto G. Fajardo Jr., who retired early this year.
SBN Associate Justice Nocom took over the post vacated by retired Associate Justice Bernelito R. Fernandez.
Associate Justice Delos Santos filled up the post vacated with the appointment of Associate Justice Geraldine Faith A. Econg as presiding justice of the anti-graft court.
The oath taking ceremony at the SC’s session hall was attended by SC Senior Associate Justice Marvic M.V.F. Leonen and Associate Justices Alfredo Benjamin S. Caguioa, Ramon Paul L. Hernando, Henri Jean Paul B. Inting, Rodil V. Zalameda, Samuel H. Gaerlan, Japar B. Dimaampao, Jose Midas P. Marquez, and Raul B. Villanueva.
Justice Marcon earned his law degree from San Beda College of Law in 1996. He also holds a Master of Laws degree from Pamantasan ng Lungsod ng Maynila (PLM), where he was awarded Best in Thesis.
Admitted to the Philippine Bar in 1998, he started as a private practitioner before joining the government as Attorney III, special assistant to the commissioner at the Bureau of Customs.
He then served as judge of the Regional Trial Court (RTC), Lucena City, from 2013 to 2018, and RTC Family Court in Makati City from 2018 until his appointment to the CA.
Justice Sagayo earned her law degree from San Beda University in 1992 and was admitted to the Philippine Bar in 1994. From 1994 to 2010, she worked in various offices in the judiciary, including the CA, the Presidential Electoral Tribunal, and the SC.
She then served as judge of the Municipal Trial Court in Pandi, Bulacan, from 2010 to 2016, and later as RTC judge in Valenzuela City from 2016 until her appointment to the appellate court.
Justice Nocom earned his law degree from Far Eastern University in 2010. He also holds a Master of Laws degree from PLM. Admitted to the Philippine Bar in 2011, he started his private law practice before joining the government service at the then Philippine Overseas Employment Administration (now Department of Migrant Workers).
He later served as Attorney V/Special Counsel at the Manila City Office of the City Prosecutor from 2014 to 2019, before joining the Department of Justice as Prosecutor II from 2019 to 2021 and Prosecutor III from 2021 until his appointment to the anti-graft court.
Justice Delos Santos earned his law degree from the University of San Carlos in Cebu in 2011. He also holds a Master of Laws degree from Cornell University in New York.
He was admitted to the Philippine Bar in 2012 and started his government career as Court Attorney IV at the SC in 2013. He then served as associate solicitor in the Office of the Solicitor General from 2014 to 2015, followed by a role as Court Attorney V at the CA in 2015.
He returned to the SC as Court Attorney VI, serving from 2017 until his appointment to the Sandiganbayan.
Chief Justice Gesmundo welcomed the new associate justices and emphasized to them the vital role they will play in upholding the rule of law, promoting justice, and strengthening public trust in the courts.
