ACT Teachers Party-list Rep. Antonio Tinio called his House colleague, Davao City 1st district Rep. Paolo Duterte "ignorant" after the latter claimed that he and the rest of the Makabayan bloc were "silent" amid the corruption issues of the Marcos administration.
As a remedy, Tinio advised Rep. Duterte to use Google, which he said was free of charge.
Tinio also couldn't help but indirectly point out to Rep. Duterte's tardiness in the House of Representatives, which may have denied him the opportunity to see the militant solons in action.
"Una siguro dapat gawin ni Rep. Pulong ang trabaho niya. Umattend siya sa mga session. Baka kung aattend siya makikita niya kung ano yung ginagawa natin sa paniningil sa Marcos Jr. administration mismo at kay Pangulong Marcos mismo bilang pangunahing responsable sa mga budget na kinurakot," Tinio said i n a chance interview on Tuesday, Nov. 4.
(First, maybe Rep. Pulong should do his job. He should attend the sessions. Maybe if he attends, he’ll see what we’re doing to hold the Marcos Jr. administration itself—and President Marcos himself—accountable as the main party responsible for the plundered budget.)
"Pangalawa, libre ang Google. Pwede siyang mag-Google sa track record ng Makabayan not just during this Congress but sa mga previous na Kongreso sa paniningil sa corruption ng Marcos Jr. administration and before that, ng Duterte administration," the militant solon said.
(Second, Google is free. He can Google the track record of Makabayan not just during this Congress but also in previous Congresses in holding the Marcos Jr. administration accountable for corruption and before that, the Duterte administration.)
Rep. Duterte is the son of former president Rodrigo Duterte, the direct predecessor of incumbent President Marcos. Vice President Sara Duterte is the Davao solon's sister.
"Unfortunately, mukhang ignorante si Rep. Duterte sa actual na ginagawa ng Makabayan. Dahil tayo ang pangunahing naniningil sa corruption ng Marcos Jr. administration at maging nung nakaraang Duterte administration," Tinio said.
(Unfortunately, Rep. Duterte seems ignorant of what Makabayan is actually doing. Because we are the main ones calling out the corruption of the Marcos Jr. administration and even the previous Duterte administration.)
"Tayo ang unang nag-raise ng isyo ng confidential funds na ginastos in 11 days ang P125 million ni Vice President Sarah Duterte. So, again, libre po mag-Google," Tinio further said.
(We were the first to raise the issue of the confidential funds of Vice President Sara Duterte worth P125 million that was spent in 11 days. So again, Google is free.)
The Makabayan bloc is part of the broader minority bloc in the House of Representatives. Meanwhile, Rep. Duterte is part of an independent faction composed of Davao-based solons.
Dolomite beach project
On Monday, Rep. Duterte called out the Makabayan in a scathing statement: "Ang bilis ninyong maghanap ng ‘mananagot’ ngayon, pero noong tunay na ninakawan ang bayan — tahimik kayong lahat.
(You’re quick to look for someone to blame now, but when the nation was truly robbed—you were all silent.)
"Noong bilyones ang nawala, nasaan kayong mga magagaling na umuusig. Nung galit na galit ang taumbayan sa garapalan na nakawan na nabunyag nitong taon lamang, kapansin-pansin na tila ang dali ninyong makalimot," Rep. Duterte said, referring to the flood control projects corruption scandal.
(When billions went missing, where were you, the ones so eager to prosecute? When the people were outraged over the blatant theft that was exposed just this year, it’s striking how easily you seem to forget.)
The Davao lawmaker and former deputy speaker gave these remarks after Tinio threw his support behind a proposed investigation in aid of legislation on the Manila Bay Dolomite Beach Project. The P389-million dolomite beach project was implemented during the Duterte administration.
"Dahil sa pulitika, pilit na ginagawan ng issue ang Manila Bay at pinapahid kay pangulong Duterte upang siraan ito," Rep. Duterte said.
(Because of politics, they're forcing an issue about Manila Bay and they're smearing it on president Duterte in order to defame him.)
