TACLOBAN CITY - Silago, Southern Leyte Mayor Lemuel Honor appealed for help as their municipality remains isolated from four-wheel vehicles due to fallen trees caused by typhoon “Tino.”
Tino made its first landfall around midnight Tuesday in Silago, causing several landslides and flash flood in Poblacion District 1 due to a landslide in Mount Naculot.
“We are appealing for our neighboring municipalities to bring chainsaws and firetrucks because we are the biggest in terms of land area,” he said.
Communication lines, water supply, and electricity were cut off.
“We are on survival mode because even our food and water are running out. We also need first aid kits, shelter kits, and temporary shelter because most of the houses were damaged,” Honor said.
Chrisa Gerong, Municipal Social Welfare and Development Officer, said they need more supplies as they do not know how long will these last for evacuees.
All 32 designated evacuation centers have been damaged by Tino with only 1,500 food packs on standby.
Honor said they have not logged any casualties due to pre-emptive evacuation.
Jordan Manatad, a tanod of Barangay Katipunan, said over 70 percent of houses in their village were damaged.
He was among the first to clear the area to help motorists pass through.
