TACLOBAN CITY — A 78-year-old man died early Tuesday morning in Barangay Romualdez, MacArthur, Leyte, after his nipa hut was struck by a fallen tree during the onslaught of typhoon “Tino.”
The victim, alias Max, a widower and jobless resident, was discovered at 5:40 a.m.
According to the victim's niece, Max had been staying at his residence prior to the howler.
Despite her advice to evacuate to a nearby evacuation center, Max insisted against leaving.
While searching for him after the storm had passed, relatives found Max deceased inside his nipa hut destroyed by a fallen macopa tree.
Local authorities confirmed that Barangay Romualdez was not under a mandatory evacuation order issued by the local government of MacArthur.
