The Philippine Red Cross (PRC) on Tuesday, November 4, said it continues to provide life-saving humanitarian assistance to families and communities affected by Typhoon Tino (international name: Kalmaegi) — reaching thousands of people across several provinces as part of its nationwide emergency response operations.
According to the PRC’s latest operations report, Red Cross volunteers and staff have been deployed to deliver first aid, health services, welfare assistance, and water, sanitation, and hygiene (WASH) support to the areas hardest hit by the typhoon.
As of 12 p.m., PRC Emergency Response Units (ERUs) have assisted 179 individuals, mostly in Southern Leyte, Gingoog City, and Cebu.
Through its Safety Services, PRC also operated four first aid stations in Masbate, Siargao Islands, and Gingoog City, where 95 individuals received vital signs monitoring. During the height of the storm, PRC teams in Cebu also safely transported an emergency childbirth case.
Under its Health Services, the Red Cross conducted disease prevention sessions for 310 residents in Capiz and distributed doxycycline to 15 individuals in Southern Leyte to prevent infections. Volunteers also handed out face masks and bottled water to families in Negros Occidental.
Through its Welfare Services, PRC set up six welfare desks and extended comfort and support to 36 individuals in Boracay-Malay. Psychological First Aid (PFA) was also provided to 34 individuals, while 1,642 hot meals were served to families in the most affected areas.
To prevent waterborne diseases, hygiene promotion sessions were held for 310 evacuees in Capiz as part of PRC’s WASH initiatives.
“Every person reached by our staff and volunteers is someone who is given hope and care in the midst of disaster,” said PRC Chairman and Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Richard Gordon.
“The Philippine Red Cross remains committed to responding swiftly wherever there is a call for help,” he added.
As Typhoon Tino’s impact continues to unfold, PRC said it is ready to scale up relief operations to ensure that no community is left behind. For emergencies or assistance, the public may contact the PRC hotline #143.
