The Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board (LTFRB) will be holding nationwide public consultation on the petition of various transport groups for fare increase that have been pending in the agency for months now.
LTFRB chairman Vigor D. Mendoza II said he already instructed all the agency’s regional directors to hold the public consultation in their respective areas in the soonest possible time and submit the report and recommendation to his office by Nov. 14.
“We already issued a Board Resolution for the conduct of the public consultation on November 10 here at the Central Office. We will make sure that all concerned sectors will be present,” said Mendoza.
“While we understand the concerns raised by those in the PUV sector because there were really a series of fuel price and motor vehicle parts increases , we need to hear all sides, particularly the commuters,” he added.
Based on the accounting of all pending petitions before the LTFRB, a number of petitions from various public utility vehicle (PUV) operators particularly from public utility buses (PUBs), public utility jeepneys (PUJs) and taxis have been pending before the agency for so long now.
The latest of the petitions were filed last month by at least three transport groups that are seeking a P2 increase on minimum fare for both traditional and modern jeepneys. The minimum fare for traditional jeepneys is currently at P13 while the modern jeepneys at P15.
In ordering a nationwide consultation, Mendoza instructed regional directors to ensure that all stakeholders will be invited to share their ideas and voice their concerns.
At the LTFRB Central Office in Quezon City, the public consultation will be on Monday, Nov. 10.
By Nov. 17, Mendoza said they are targeting to submit the LTFRB position and recommendation to the office of the DOTr Secretary.
