Danish fund manager Copenhagen Infrastructure Partners (CIP) will build a $3-billion offshore wind farm project in Camarines Sur, Malacañang announced.
The Palace said it will be the company's first offshore wind development project in Southeast Asia.
The deal was announced after President Marcos met with the officials of CIP at the Malacañang Palace on Tuesday, Nov. 4, to discuss renewable energy and sustainable infrastructure opportunities in the Philippines.
According to him, the company chose to invest in the country due to its strategic location and the administration's commitment to shifting to renewable energy.
"Sa panayam kay Pangulong Marcos Jr., binigyang-diin ng kumpanya na pinili nilang mag-invest sa Pilipinas dahil sa magandang lokasyon nito at sa magandang hangarin ni Pangulong Marcos Jr. na mag-shift sa renewable energy (In an interview with President Marcos Jr., the company emphasized that they chose to invest in the Philippines because of its strategic location and the President’s strong commitment to shifting to renewable energy)," Palace Press Officer and Communications Undersecretary said in a Palace briefing.
Marcos also said that the company’s investment is important to the government’s goal of transitioning from fossil fuels to renewable energy.
CIP is a well-known Denmark-based company and a leader in green energy development.
Founded in 2012 in Denmark, CIP manages funds and invests in greenfield renewable energy projects across the globe, including offshore and onshore wind, solar photovoltaic, biomass, energy-from-waste, transmission and distribution, reserve capacity, storage, advanced bioenergy, and Power-to-X technologies.
The company has 55 greenfield renewable energy investment projects spanning the Americas, Asia-Pacific, Europe, the Middle East, and Africa.
CIP established its Manila office in September 2024. Its first windmill energy farm was established in Ilocos Norte when Marcos was still governor.
