Five Korean celebrities will be enlisting the military this month and December as part of their mandatory duty as citizens.
K-pop boy band NCT members Doyoung and Jungwoo, “Hotel del Luna” stars Yeo Jin-goo, GOT7 member Youngjae and actor Kwon Hyun-bin announced their upcoming military service.
Kwon Hyun-bin
Actor Kwon Hyun-bin participated in the survival audition show "Produce 101" season 2 in 2017. He will enlist in the Marine Corps on Nov. 24. His agency, Ghost Studio, said, "There will be no special events on the day of enlistment."
Youngjae
AndBut Company, Youngjae’s agency, announced that he will be serving as a social service worker.
“We would like to inform you of our artist Youngjae’s upcoming enlistment. Youngjae will begin fulfilling his mandatory military duty as a social service worker starting November 27. He has chosen not to make a separate public statement, as he wishes to quietly and sincerely carry out his duty,” the agency said.
Doyoung and Jungwoo
Doyoung and Jungwoo, members of NCT 127, will be enlisting in the military on Dec. 8. SM Entertainment, their agency said, Doyoung will enlist as an active-duty soldier and Jungwoo will be with the military band.
"We ask for your continued support so that the two can faithfully fulfill their military duties and return in good health,” the agency said.
Yeo Jin-goo
Actor Yeo Jin-goo will be enlisting on Dec. 15 in the Korean Augmentation to the United States Army (KATUSA) Soldier Program.
“The mission of the KATUSA Soldier Program is to augment Army in Korea with ROK Army Soldiers in order to increase the ROK/U.S. combined defense capability on the Korean peninsula,” according to the KATUSA website.
"Actor Yeo Jin-goo has been selected for KATUSA and will serve for approximately one year and six months, starting on Monday, December 15,” according to a statement issued by the actor’s side.
It added, "As the training camp entrance ceremony will be attended by many soldiers and their families, the specific location and time will not be disclosed. We respectfully request that you refrain from visiting the site on the day of the ceremony."
In a letter to fans, Yeo Jin-goo said, "During this brief time away from you all, I will return as a stronger and more mature person. I promise to stand before you with a healthier body and mind, and with even more profound acting skills. In the meantime, I hope you all stay healthy, eat well, and be happy."
