TACLOBAN CITY – The Police Regional Office (PRO)-8 (Eastern Visayas) has mobilized at least 3,400 personnel across the region to ensure public safety and support the ongoing disaster response operations amid the onslaught of typhoon ‘’Tino.’’

As of Tuesday morning, PRO-8 reported that 1,450 police and 1,953 Regional Special Support Force personnel have been deployed throughout the region’s provinces and cities to conduct disaster response, security operations, and evacuation assistance.

Of these, 465 personnel were stationed in evacuation centers, 157 were assigned to secure vital installations, and 176 were designated as search, rescue, and retrieval operatives.

To ensure the protection of vulnerable groups, 116 Women and Children Protection desk officers were dispatched to various evacuation centers.

“The safety of our people remains our top priority. Our personnel are working round the clock to assist in evacuations, maintain peace and order, and provide immediate response wherever needed,” PRO-8 director Police Brig. Gen. Jason Capoy said in a statement.

According to PRO-8, a total of 3,319 evacuation centers were opened across Eastern Visayas, with 1,577 currently occupied.

Reports indicate that 54,273 families, or 183,726 individuals, sought temporary shelter on Monday, mostly in the provinces of Leyte, Samar, Northern Samar, and Eastern Samar.

PRO-8 said Tino did not damage any police facilities, vehicles, or communication systems. However, 26 power lines were reported down – 11 in Leyte, 10 in Southern Leyte, two in Biliran, and three in Eastern Samar.

Flooding was observed in three barangays – one in Leyte and two in Northern Samar – though no communities were reported isolated.

Amid the tropical cyclone, authorities reported no lawless incidents or crimes related to the disaster, including looting or gender-based violence. (PNA)
