PAGASA
The Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) on Monday, Nov. 3, said Typhoon Tino (international name: Kalmaegi) may either make “landfall or pass very close to Homonhon Island or the Dinagat Islands” this evening.
As of 7 p.m., the center of the eye of Tino was located 95 kilometers southeast of Guiuan, Eastern Samar, moving west-northwestward at 15 kilometers per hour (kph).
After its initial landfall, the typhoon could make another landfall over Leyte or Southern Leyte by early Tuesday, Nov. 4, before crossing the Visayas and northern Palawan from Wednesday morning, Nov. 5, to early Thursday, Nov. 6.
Tino is expected to emerge over the West Philippine Sea by Wednesday morning or afternoon and is forecast to exit the Philippine Area of Responsibility by Thursday morning.
The typhoon is expected to reach peak intensity, with maximum sustained winds of 140 to 155 kph and higher gusts at landfall. Currently, it has maximum sustained winds of 140 kph and gusts of up to 170 kph.
PAGASA said rapid intensification before landfall remains likely.
“While interaction with the terrain may trigger slight weakening, Tino is expected to remain at typhoon strength throughout its passage over the country,” the agency added.
