TACLOBAN CITY – To prevent possible looting, Mayor Alfred Romualdez here said he is considering placing this city under lockdown if typhoon “Tino” causes severe devastation.
“In the event na talagang matamaan tayo ng devastation (we are devastated), sabihin natin talagang bumaha at magkaproblema talaga tayo sa downtown (downtown is flooded and it becomes a problem), I’ve instructed the police, together with the Armed Forces of the Philippines, we will lock down the city,” Romualdez said on Monday, hours before the storm's landfall.
Romualdez said that no outsiders will be allowed, except during emergencies, when emergency vehicles may need to enter the area in the event of a lockdown.
“Ayaw kong pagsamantalahan na naman na may mga masasamang elementong papasok, magloloot, o gagawa ng hindi maganda dito sa siyudad natin (I don’t want unscrupulous individuals to take advantage of the situation in our city),” he added.
Romualdez urged residents to be alert and not take the storm for granted.
A liquor ban has been imposed on Nov. 3 and 4 and classes remain suspended.
