BACOLOD CITY – A 43-year-old police officer is facing murder charges before the Talisay City Prosecutor’s Office in Negros Occidental for allegedly killing a single mother who he had a three-year love affair.
Although Police Staff Sgt. Enrique Gonzalodo Jr. claimed in his extrajudicial confession that the fatal shooting of Kristine Joy Dignadice, a resident of Victorias City, Negros Occidental was accidental, Police Col. Dennis Wenceslao, Negros Occidental police director, said that they have submitted all the documents to the prosecutor on Sunday night, Nov. 2, for the filing of the criminal complaint.
Wenceslao, who heads the Special Investigation Task Group (SITG) on Dignadice’s case, said they are awaiting the resolution of the fiscal on the complaint.
Wenceslao expressed confidence that they have a strong case against the suspect. “Nasa kamay na ng korte. Lahat ng magagawa ng PNP, ginawa na.” (The case is in the hands of the court. We did all we can)
Wenceslao condoled with Dignadice’s family. “Alam naming walang salita ang makakapawi ng sakit na ito. Nakikiisa kami sa panawagan ng hustisya,” he said. (No words can comfort the family of the victim. We join the call for justice for the victim)
Dignadice’s decomposing body was found in a sugarcane field in Barangay Don Jorge Araneta, Bago City, Negros Occidental on Nov. 1, three days after her car was discovered abandoned with blood stains in Barangay Gargato, Hinigaran, Negros Occidental on Wednesday afternoon, Oct. 29.
The couple reportedly figured in an argument in the victim’s car, resulting in a fatal shooting in Barangay Matab-ang, Talisay City, Negros Occidental on Wednesday morning.
Gonzalodo, assisted by his lawyer, surrendered to authorities on Nov. 1, and voluntarily turned over his 9mm caliber service firearm he used to killed the victim.
Wenceslao lamented that the suspect is a police officer who allegedly used his position to commit the crime.
“This is a serious offense within our ranks. I want to emphasize that there will be no cover-up or concealment in our organization,” Wenceslao said.
This serves as a strong reminder that the police badge is not a symbol of power, but of responsibility, and when it is disgraced, the organization itself will take action to correct it. We will not cover up wrongdoing; we intend to confront it directly, he added.
Gonzalodo is currently under the custody of the Criminal Investigation and Detection Group-Negros Island Region (CIDG-NIR) to prevent any influence in the ongoing investigation.
Aside from criminal charges, Gonzalodo will also face administrative charges.
