BUTUAN CITY – The Department of Social Welfare and Development in the Caraga region (DSWD-13) has prepositioned 81,989 family food packs in strategic locations ahead of typhoon Tino's landfall on Monday night or Tuesday morning.
In a report during a virtual disaster meeting Monday, DSWD-13 said the supplies are ready for effective response.
“Among the priority areas are the island municipalities in the region to ensure the timely provision of relief assistance when needed,” the agency said.
A total of 846 food packs were transferred from the Dinagat Islands provincial warehouse to Tubajon municipality for prepositioning.
“This ensures that food assistance is already on the ground and can be distributed immediately,” DSWD-13 added.
The agency also distributed 1,000 food packs to residents in San Jose, Dinagat Islands, on Monday.
Of the total released, 604 packs came from the provincial warehouse and 396 from the San Jose warehouse.
DSWD-13 continues to monitor the situation with local governments to ensure community safety.
Meanwhile, Police Regional Office-13 Director Police Brig. Gen. Marcial Mariano P. Magistrado IV has ordered all police personnel in the region to heighten operational preparedness and mobilize necessary assets for Tino.
Magistrado ordered all field commanders to maintain close coordination with local government units and regional, provincial, city, and municipal disaster risk reduction and management councils for immediate and possible assistance and evacuation response in affected communities.
He urged the public to stay alert and contact the unified 911 or the nearest police stations for swift assistance.
“We are now ready, and our ground troops are already on the round-the-clock duty ready for immediate assistance and response,” PRO 13-RPIO chief Police Major Jannifer S. Ometer said.
The Port Management Office (PMO) of Surigao City temporarily suspended passenger and cargo-handling operations on Monday, Nov. 3, due to Tino.
PMO Surigao City recorded 163 rolling cargoes and 325 freight truck personnel queued on the road leading to the Lipata Ferry Port Terminal in Lipata, Surigao City.
The PMO Surigao is closely coordinating with local DRRMCs to ensure the safety of all port facilities and personnel.
