The Taguig police arrested a man who was the suspect in the fatal shooting of a 63-year-old man on Nov. 2.
The police identified the arrested man as Ryam Guiamal alias Rasheed, a suspect in the shooting of Sandatu Abo, a resident of Cotabato City, in Barangay Maharlika, Taguig, on Oct. 28.
CCTV footage revealed that the victim was riding his electric bike together with the suspect when Guiamal allegedly drew a firearm and shot him twice in the head, causing his instant death.
The suspect fled on foot towards Mindanao Avenue in Barangay Maharlika, carrying with him the firearm used in the crime, the police said.
Through a review of CCTV footage and corroboration of witnesses’ statements, the Taguig police’s Station Intelligence Unit and follow-up teams launched pursuit operations that resulted in the arrest of the suspect at about 2 a.m. on Nov. 2 along Tawi-Tawi Street in Barangay Maharlika.
The police said further investigation showed that Guiamal had an existing warrant of arrest for murder issued by Judge Marilou Bien of the Taguig Regional Trial Court Branch 193.
He was also identified as one of the suspects involved in the killing of Querbin Roy Angeles, an operations associate at Sunshine Mall (Arca South), on July 16 last year.
During the arrest, police recovered from Guiamal’s possession a .45-caliber pistol and a hand grenade.
He is facing three criminal charges: murder, violation of Republic Act 10591 (Comprehensive Firearms and Ammunition Regulation Act), and violation of Republic Act 9516 (illegal possession of explosives), in addition to serving his standing warrant of arrest for murder.
Col. Byron Allatog, officer-in-charge of the Taguig police, commended the operating teams for the arrest.
