Negros Occidental LGUs cancel classes, gov't work due to 'Tino'
BACOLOD CITY – Local government units (LGUs) in Negros Occidental suspended classes on all levels and work in government offices from Nov. 3 to 4 due to the threat of tropical cyclone “Tino.”
These LGUs were Toboso, Moises Padilla, Binalbagan, Calatrava, E.B. Magalona, Don Salvador Benedicto, Manapla, Cadiz City, Sagay City, and Bacolod City.
Mayor Matthew Malacon announced on social media the cancellation of work in government offices in E.B. Magalona on Nov. 4, following an emergency meeting with 23 barangay captains and concerned agencies on Sunday, Nov. 2.
Work in government offices in Cadiz City was suspended on Monday, Nov. 3. This proactive measure aims to ensure the safety of students, employees, and families as the storm is expected to bring heavy rains and strong winds in Negros Occidental.
Private establishments were encouraged to adopt similar precautionary measures to safeguard the well-being of their employees and their families.
Sagay City cancelled work in all government offices on Nov. 3 and 4 and the City Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office Council (CDRRMC) is on high alert.
Residents were urged to prioritize safety and complete typhoon preparations immediately as well as monitor weather updates.
In Calatrava, Mayor Marilyn Era suspended classes on all levels from Nov. 4 to 6 as part of disaster mitigation and prevention measures.
Mayor Greg Gasataya encouraged schools here to shift to modular distance learning performance tasks and projects to ensure that learning competencies are met.
The CDRRMC recommended the cancellation of classes due to the possible impact of the tropical cyclone which is expected to pass through Negros Island.
