Michelin Guide leads a star-studded celebration of Filipino culinary excellence
The Michelin Guide has officially arrived in the Philippines. You can read the list of 108 dining establishments that made it to the list in here. But what I’d like to point out is how, beyond the starred restaurants, several unheralded eateries made it to the Selected and Bib Gourmand listings—something I’m sure these less publicized and promoted dining gems will be super happy about.
The joke going around that night was how that Thursday evening, Oct. 30, would be the worst day to go out dining, as all the chefs of note were gathered at the Marriott Grand Ballroom for the Michelin Guide launch. It would be like how social observers would advise you not to head to a beauty salon on the day a prestigious beauty pageant is taking place.
While the Department of Tourism can be proud of spearheading the Michelin Guide’s entry into our country—and can bask in the deep appreciation of the local culinary community—one also has to hope that this leads to an influx of new tourist arrivals, now gifted with yet another great reason to visit the Philippines. This, after all, would be the endgame for having invested in the Michelin Guide Philippines. In the meantime, let’s be proud of how many restaurants made it to the guide!
