Classes cancelled in Western Visayas as 'Tino' approaches

ILOILO CITY – Classes in the Western Visayas region were cancelled on Monday as tropical cyclone “Tino” threatened the Visayas region.

No classes were declared in Aklan, Antique, Capiz, Guimaras, and Iloilo provinces as well as the city of Iloilo, the regional capital of Western Visayas.

State weather bureau Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical, and Astronomical Services Administration warned of heavy rainfall in the region by 12 noon on Monday.

The agency warned of possible storm surge in eastern Panay and Guimaras Islands.

The Office of Civil Defense-6, chairman of the Regional Disaster Risk Reduction Management Council (RDRRMC), convened an online pre-disaster risk assessment (PDRA) on Sunday afternoon.

Governors Jose Enrique “Joen” Miraflores of Aklan, Paolo Javier of Antique, Fredenil Castro of Capiz, Maria Lucille Nava of Guimaras, and Arthur “Toto” Defensor Jr. of Iloilo, as well as Mayor Raisa Treñas here, attended the PDRA.

DRRM offices of local government units (LGUs) are on alert.

The Department of Social Welfare and Development-6 prepositioned food supplies in key areas of Western Visayas.
