BACOLOD CITY – The Negros Occidental Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council Emergency Operations Center is preparing for tropical cyclone ‘’Tino.’’
Gov. Eugenio Jose Lacson, PDRRMC chairperson, issued a memorandum on Nov. 1 placing the PDRRMC under red alert, directing respective cluster members to coordinate closely with their designated lead agency, following the activation of the Provincial Response Clusters.
All concerned offices, agencies, and local DRRMOs have been advised to submit their preparedness measures and response actions, and conduct pre-emptive evacuation if necessary.
Any untoward incidents related to the above hazards should be promptly reported and coordinated through the PDRRMC EOC, with the submission of situation reports, the governor said.
Meanwhile, Mayor Greg Gasataya assured that this highly-urbanized city is ready with response teams on standby and measures in place to ensure full preparedness.
“As we expect heavy rainfall in the following days, we ask everyone to remain calm and stay safe,” he said.
An advisory from the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical, and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) indicated that the tropical cyclone will traverse much of Visayas, the northern portion of Sulu Sea, and the northern portion of Palawan.
It is expected to enter the Philippine Area of Responsibility on Sunday morning or afternoon and may make its initial landfall over Caraga region or Eastern Visayas between the evening of Nov. 3 and morning of Nov. 4.
It is likely to intensify into a typhoon.
