De La Salle aims to strike back at National University and share the lead in the UAAP Season 88 men’s basketball tournament Sunday, Nov. 2, at the Mall of Asia Arena in Pasay City.
The Green Archers, who claimed their fourth straight win with an 84-72 victory over the UE Red Warriors last Oct. 29, seek revenge when they meet the league-leading Bulldogs at 4:30 p.m.
Far Eastern University and Adamson, meanwhile, open the men's action at 2 p.m.
NU scored its first-round triumph over DLSU courtesy of an 82-78 win where Mason Amos sustained an MCL injury which has sidelined him for weeks since Oct. 12.
Winning over the Bulldogs, who carry a 7-2 win-loss record, would give the Archers (6-3) a share of the lead.
“We’re very excited going against a top team… I really love being that underdog,” said La Salle skipper Mike Phillips. “Because it really brings out the best in us and we try to just have to bring that out every game because we know we're going to need that,” he added.
NU, despite Amos and Kean Baclaan’s absence for La Salle, sees a tight match ahead.
"We have to be ready talaga against La Salle,” said NU head coach Jeff Napa.
It would be another exciting clash between big men Phillips and NU's Omar John as well as guards Jacob Cortez and Steve Nash Enriquez. Jake Figueroa is also bracing for a big battle and taking the lead for the Bulldogs.
Meanwhile, Adamson targets its fifth consecutive win against the gritty FEU side
