Gun used in Cebu cop's slay found in Parañaque; driver arrested

A driver who allegedly kept the firearm used in the killing of a police captain in Cebu City was arrested by members of the Pasay City Police on Friday, Oct. 31, in Paran̈aque City.
Col. Joselito De Sesto, Pasay City Police chief, identified the suspect as Romel, 37, a resident of Western Bicutan, Taguig City. He was nabbed around 9:10 p.m. in front of Andres Pares and Budbod, located at Seaside Drive, Coastal Road, Barangay Tambo, Paran̈aque.
De Sesto said Romel had been safekeeping the .45-caliber pistol used in the killing of Capt. Joel Hernan Deparine and the wounding of Police Executive Master Sergeant Artchel Tero. Both officers were assigned to the Criminal Investigation and Detection Group (CIDG) in Region 7.
The suspect in the shooting incident that occurred at Sitio Balaw, Barangay Sudion 2, Cebu City, was identified as Leonardo, an Army reservist.
Leonardo surrendered to the Pasig City Police on Oct. 29 and was transported immediately to Cebu City for the filing of an appropriate case.
De Sesto said Cebu City Police director Col. Enrico Figueroa coordinated to conduct the operation in Paran̈aque that led to Rommel's arrest.
The .45-caliber pistol used in the shooting, along with 17 rounds of ammunition, was recovered from Rommel's possession.
