Miss Earth Australia 2025 Alexa Roder is aiming for a back-to-back victory for her country as she competes at the 25th Miss Earth beauty pageant at Okada Manila on Nov. 5.
Alexa, 24, is currently pursuing a law degree. She believes that fostering a deep connection, love, and gratitude toward nature, community, and our food can serve as a silver lining to address and restore balance amid growing health challenges, climate change, and the need to protect our ecosystems.
"As a law graduate, I will bring advocacy and action to the Miss Earth platform. My dad, growing up as a farmer, taught me the importance of caring for the environment," Alexa said during a meet-and-greet event in Quezon City recently.
The Filipino-Australian beauty added, "I have a personal connection to the land and understand the respect that needs to be given to it. My advocacy focuses on reducing food waste production, promoting sustainable practices, and supporting sustainable agriculture, while also honoring the rights and traditions of our indigenous peoples. Recognizing them means understanding their vital importance to preserving our environment."
Alexa, who is representing the Filipino Community of Melbourne, Australia, in the pageant, said she hopes for a back-to-back victory for Australia in the environment-driven beauty contest.
Jessica Lane of Australia is the reigning Miss Earth. She is the first Miss Earth title holder from Australia. More than 80 Earth warriors are competing in this year's pageant.
Alexa, who was born and raised in Davao, advocates for reducing single-use plastics, adopting a zero-waste mindset, and promoting sustainable lifestyle choices. She hopes to inspire others through her advocacy.
"Through my law degree, I have come to understand the importance of policy and education, and how we can create significant change.
"As Miss Earth, I aim to inspire action. I want to advocate for sustainable quality for everyone. I want to promote a healthy and sustainable Earth, not only for ourselves but for our environment," Alexa said.
Alexa expressed her concern about the recent "ghost project" scam in the Philippines.
"I want to extend my heart to everyone who has experienced the devastation of flooding. I was in Manila during the flooding this year.
"However, it was disheartening to learn that the budget intended to rebuild infrastructure for Filipinos had not been implemented.
"It is not fair that Filipinos are experiencing this as a community. As a law student, I understand that the government is meant to be a voice for the community and society. Therefore, you must continue to advocate for your right to have security and an infrastructure that helps prevent flooding. So, please keep going, and I hope to see change soon," she said.
