CEBU CITY – Eight barangays in Cebu province have been officially declared drug-cleared.
They earned the status after passing the evaluation and validation of the Regional Oversight Committee on Barangay Drug Clearing (ROCBDC) on Thursday, Oct. 30, 2025.
The deliberation was presided over by Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency-Central Visayas (PDEA-7) Regional Director and ROCBDC Chairperson Director Joel B. Plaza and hosted by the Lapu-Lapu City government.
The newly declared drug-cleared barangays were Bolinawan and Poblacion II in Carcar City, Poblacion 7 in Tuburan town, Alang-Alang in Mandaue City, and Pajo, Pajac ,Babag, and Agus in Lapu-Lapu City.
During the assessment, barangay officials presented their accomplishments and measures undertaken to sustain their anti-drug programs under the Barangay Drug Clearing Program (BDCP), in accordance with Dangerous Drugs Board Regulation No. 4, Series of 2021.
They also addressed questions from the committee on their implementation strategies and community-based rehabilitation initiatives for persons who used drugs (PWUDs), said Leia Alcantara, information officer of PDEA-7.
Alcantara said a barangay is declared drug-cleared once all identified drug personalities have been accounted for and appropriate intervention programs put in place.
An active and functional Barangay Anti-Drug Abuse Council (BADAC) is also required.
To date, 1,611 of the 2,312 barangays in Central Visayas have achieved drug-cleared status while 36 have been classified as drug-free.
Drug-cleared and drug-free barangays undergo annual validation to ensure the continued implementation of anti-illegal drug programs, Alcantara said.
