PAGBILAO, Quezon – An employee was killed and nine colleagues were injured in a fire that hit the Pagbilao Power Station operated by Pagbilao Energy Corp. in Ibabang Polo here on Friday night, Oct. 31.
The Pagbilao Energy Corp. (PEC) said the fire occurred at about 9 p.m. and has been contained.
“We are deeply saddened that the incident resulted in one fatality and nine personnel sustaining injuries. At this time, our priority is to care for those who are hurt and ensure they receive appropriate medical treatment, and to support their families during this difficult time,” PEC said.
The PEC thanked the Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP), the Pagbilao local government, Quezon province officials, and emergency response teams for their swift and coordinated action.
“Their efforts ensured the safety of nearby residents and prevented the fire from spreading to other areas of the facility,” PEC said.
The PEC is verifying the condition of all personnel and contractors who were at the site during the incident. “The safety and well-being of our people are our top priority, and we continue to provide the necessary medical and psychosocial support to those affected.”
“We are conducting a full assessment of the site to determine the extent of the damage and the circumstances that led to this regrettable incident. The affected area has been secured while authorities and technical teams complete their inspections,” the PEC said.
