ZAMBOANGA CITY – A Philippine National Police-Special Action Forces trooper and three suspected gun runners were killed in a shootout in Sitio Talatak, Barangay Bato Bato, Indanan town, Sulu province on Thursday, Oct. 30.
A well-known figure, Alnaib Sahiddan Daud, alias General, was killed along with two associates during a search warrant operation conducted by PNP-SAF and the Criminal Investigation and Detection Group Sulu Provincial Field Unit.
Reports from the Directorate for Special Action Force said the 54th Special Action Company of the 5th Special Action Battalion, backed by the police and military, arrived in the area to 3 a.m. to serve a search warrant against the suspects for violating Republic Acts 10591 and 9516 penalizing the illegal possession of firearms, ammunition, and explosives.
The suspects fired at approaching lawmen, killing Police Corporal Albasir Lauban Lumalag, who sustained a bullet wound in the head.
Lumalag was from Dalican, Datu Odin Sinsuat town, Maguindanao del Norte province.
A colleague was also wounded and taken to the Sulu Integrated Provincial Hospital in Jolo. He was later transported to Zamboanga City.
Recovered from the encounter site were an M14 rifle, an M16 rifle, a .45 caliber pistol, and other pieces of evidence.
