Those that prefer a pickup, whether for work, leisure or personal style are certainly spoiled for choice. The competitive pickup segment gains another contender in the form of the MG TRQ L.
MG Motor Philippines officially unveiled the new MG TRQ L at the MG Gallery along Quezon Avenue recently. Dubbed “the beast of both worlds,” this pickup truck delivers a balance between performance and comfort. It’s ideal for people who need a workhorse during the week, and comfortable and stylish vehicle for road trips with family or friends on weekends.
Performance
Under the hood is a 2.0-liter direct injection turbo diesel engine, which puts out 161-PS at 4,000 rpm and 400-Nm of torque between 1,500 and 2,400 rpm. The engine is mated to either a ZF eight-speed automatic transmission or a six-speed manual transmission. The MG TRQ L is also equipped with three drive modes, Power, Normal, and Eco. It also has commendable range with a fuel tank capacity of 73-liters.
It offers competitive dimensions and performance, measuring 5,365-mm in length, 1960-mm in width, and stands at 1857-mm tall. Its ground clearance is a high 215-mm and has a 1,055-kg payload capacity. Carrying the load will be double wishbone suspension up front and leaf springs around back. Front and rear disc brakes bring it to a quick stop.
Exterior
Its power is emphasized by its large grille, halogen projector headlamps, five-spoke 16-inch alloy wheels wrapped in all–terrain 245/70’s and door handles in gloss black.
The roll bar gives it presence, and the automatic variant has integrated roof rails, side step boards and fender flares. To celebrate its launch, the first 200 buyers get a tailgate assist accessory, which lightens the weight of the tailgate, and a corner step fitted, which makes getting into the cargo bed more convenient. Both accessories add an additional value of ₱20,000.
Interior
Inside, it seats five easily. The automatic variant has leather seats, and a six-way power-adjustable driver seat. There are air-conditioning vents for the rear passengers. The10.25-inch touchscreen display, which comes with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, is standard for both variants. To charge the connected devices, there are two USB A ports in front.
Convenience and safety
Ingress and start up is easy as it comes with Smart Entry and One Push Start systems. Both MT and AT variants come with keyless entry as standard. It’s equipped with dual front airbags, cruise control, Hill Descent Control (HDC), Electronic Stability Program (ESP), and a reverse camera with dynamic guidelines.
Price and colors
The MG TRQ L is offered in two variants, starting with the TRQ L AT 4x2, offered at an introductory price of ₱1,318,888 (₱1,338,888 SRP). The TRQ L MT 4x2 is offered at an introductory price of ₱1,198,888 (₱1,248,888 SRP).

It comes in Warm White, Astral Silver, Metal Black, and Metal Ash Gray, with Scarlet Red offered exclusively for the automatic variant. The MG TRQ L is now available at all authorized MG dealers.
