LTFRB tightens complaint response amid 'Undas' rush

The Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board (LTFRB) said on Friday, Oct. 31, that it has intensified its complaint response operations to ensure commuter safety as millions of Filipinos head to provinces for the observance of All Saints’ Day and All Souls’ Day.
LTFRB Chairperson Vigor Mendoza II said the agency must abandon the “old system” where complaints took too long to be resolved or were ignored altogether.
“Babaguhin natin ang lumang sistema na ang tagal o kung minsan ay hindi naaksyunan ang mga reklamo ng ating mga ordinaryong kababayang commuters. Hindi na ito puwede sa ilalim ng Bagong Pilipinas (We will change the old system where complaints from ordinary commuters took too long to be addressed or were sometimes left unresolved. This can no longer be allowed under the Bagong Pilipinas governance),” he said.
Mendoza ordered all regional offices to act swiftly on reports and complaints, particularly those coursed through the LTFRB hotline (0956-761-0739) which, he said, has been reinforced to handle the expected surge in public concerns.
He cited a recent case in which a bus company and its driver were summoned for attempting to evade accountability after sideswiping another vehicle in Quezon City. The incident, he said, was immediately acted upon once reported to the LTFRB hotline.
“Through our LTFRB hotline, we will be able to show the Filipino people that we are more responsive to address their complaints and concerns. We in the LTFRB should use this platform to showcase what the men and women of LTFRB could do in the service of the Filipino people,” Mendoza said.
The LTFRB chief also said he will personally monitor the response rate of all regional offices to ensure that complaints lodged through the hotline and other platforms are resolved promptly.
He urged the public to report to the LTFRB any abusive driver of public utility vehicles (PUVs) through the hotline.
While the directive came amid the Undas travel rush, Mendoza emphasized that quick response to commuter concerns will continue year-round.
“Our efforts to ensure the safety of all road users always start with the trust and confidence of the people that the national government, in this case through the DOTr and LTFRB, will be responsive to their complaints and will not fail them,” Mendoza stressed.
