RANDOM drug test for PUV drivers in Bacolod City. (LTO-NIR)
BACOLOD CITY – Six public utility vehicle drivers tested positive for illegal drug use during a random drug testing in line with “Oplan: Harabas” conducted by the Land Transportation Office-Negros Island Region for "Undas" at the northound bus terminal in Barangay Bata here on Thursday, Oct. 30.
Four were drivers of modern jeepneys and two were traditional jeepney drivers.
LTO-NIR officer-in-charge Jeck Conlu said they immediately confiscated and suspended their driver’s licenses.
Conlu said they will recommend the revocation of their driver’s licenses if confirmatory tests turn out positive.
The drug test was conducted in close coordination with the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency (PDEA)-NIR and other partner agencies.
It covered taxi, tricycle, PUJ, and bus drivers, as well as conductors and dispatchers, to ensure the safety of the people during Undas.
Conlu said they have deployed personnel in terminals to assist and cater to concerns on road safety and other related matters from the public.
He reminded drivers to ensure the road worthiness of their vehicles this long weekend.
