Student rider dies in Manila road crash

A 21-year-old student died after his motorcycle crashed into the center island beneath the LRT-1 along Taft Avenue corner P. Ocampo Street in Malate, Manila, on Wednesday night, Oct. 30.

According to the Manila District Traffic Enforcement unit of the Manila Police District (MPD), the victim was caught on closed-circuit television (CCTV) cameras speeding while on his way home when he lost control of his motorcycle, causing him to directly hit the center island.

The authorities declared him dead on the spot.

Barangay 719 officials said the victim possibly tried to evade a pothole in the middle of the road but failed to regain control of his vehicle due to his speed.

They reminded motorists, especially riders and cyclists, to regulate their speed while passing through that segment of the road, as it is said to be an accident-prone area.
