BACOLOD CITY – Police are investigating the disappearance of a woman after her car was discovered abandoned with bloodstains in Sitio So-ol, Barangay Gargato, Hinigaran, Negros Occidental on Wednesday, Oct. 29.
The 42-year-old woman, a single mother, has a 10-year-old child, and a resident of Victorias City, Negros Occidental.
Authorities were alerted by a concerned citizen after spotting a gray sedan parked irregularly beside a sugarcane field in a secluded area.
The vehicle’s windshield on the driver’s side was shattered and bloodstains were found on both the driver and passenger seats.
Police Lt. Col. Jovil Sedel, Hinigaran police chief, said they have identified the car owner based on the documents recovered.
Sedel said the car was purchased secondhand by the woman from a resident of Molo, Iloilo.
Despite being identified as car owner, Sedel said it’s not conclusive that the bloodstains in the car was hers.
The found abandoned vehicle could be a diversion from what really happened and her disappearance, Sedel said.
Sedel said they have coordinated with the family and her siblings positively identified the vehicle. However, they did not know much about her because she is allegedly secretive.
The family remains hopeful for the victim’s safe return as the investigation continues.
Sedel said that they have examined pieces of evidence in the car. No significant items were recovered.
He added that their focus in the investigation is to determine the person who left the vehicle.
Police Col. Dennis Wenceslao, Negros Occidental police director, said that a joint probe is being conducted by the Victorias City and Hinigaran police stations.
