As part of its effort to guarantee a safe and peaceful observance of All Saints’ Day and All Souls’ Day, the local government conducted inspections of all cemeteries in the city.
“More or less nasa 600,000 ang ine-expect natin na bibisita sa ating yumao rito sa Marikina. Kaya naman puspusan ang ating ginawang inspeksyon, paglilinis, at pagsigurado ng kaligtasan ng publiko (We are expecting around 600,000 people to visit their departed loved ones here in Marikina. That is why we conducted thorough inspections, cleanup operations, and measures to ensure public safety),” the mayor said.
Mayor Maan and her husband, Marikina 1st District Rep. Marcy Teodoro, also led the inspections of Loyola Memorial Park, Barangka Municipal Cemetery, Aglipay Cemetery, Holy Child Cemetery, Our Lady of the Abandoned (OLA) Cemetery, and St. Paul of the Cross Parish Columbarium in the city on Oct. 29 and 30.
Members of the Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP), key City Hall officials, and personnel from the City Parks and Development Office were among those deployed to ensure the security and safety of all cemeteries.
The city government has also mobilized the Health Office, local police, the Office of Public Safety and Security (OPSS), Marikina Rescue 161, the Waste Management Office, and other concerned departments.
It said that these teams, along with force multipliers, will be stationed across the city’s five cemeteries to maintain order and provide assistance throughout the Undas observance.
Mayor Maan also urged the public to follow the guidelines and regulations set by the local government to ensure their safety and security.
“As a reminder, certain items are prohibited inside cemeteries, including firearms, sharp objects, alcoholic beverages, and gambling paraphernalia,” she added.
The local government also prohibited the following:
•Urinating or spitting in public places
•Undressing in public
•Littering or improper waste disposal
•Excessive noise
•Use of plastic and styrofoam
•Climbing on tombs or niches
•Smoking and vaping
•Illegal parking
The mayor also called on them to help maintain cleanliness in cemeteries by properly disposing of their waste and refraining from littering.
“Also, we ask the public to do their part in keeping our cemeteries clean. Let us be mindful of our surroundings by properly disposing of waste and avoid littering,” Teodoro continued.
Meanwhile, to avoid congestion among visitors entering and leaving the cemeteries, the mayor said vendors will be regulated to keep pathways around cemetery entrances clear and will only be allowed in designated areas.
As part of this initiative, the city government said it has opened a one-stop shop for candles and flowers at Freedom Park, located in front of City Hall.
“Please follow these guidelines to ensure a smooth and respectful visit to honor your departed loved ones,” the mayor said.
Also, a traffic scheme has been implemented throughout Marikina to maintain an orderly flow of vehicles.
