GENERAL SANTOS CITY – It was never too heavy for Davao City bet Abigail Lim with all the medals dangling around her neck during the awarding ceremony of archery at the Notre Dame of Dadiangas University IBED quadrangle here.
It was every ounce she sacrificed, and every ounce she deserved to be one of the most bemedalled athletes in the 2025 Batang Pinoy here.
The 16-year-old completed a sweep of all of her events just as Patricia Mae Santor of Manila basked in the glory of her swimming success Thursday, Oct. 30.
Santor and Lim each won six golds but the former had a silver in her collection to be at the forefront for the most bemedalled award.
The Capital City bet claimed her sixth gold after her team that also featured Kristine Jane Uy, Naomi Sy and Eliana Isabel Rodriguez bagged the gold in the girls 14-17 4x50 meter medley relay at the Antonio Acharon Sports Complex with a time of 2:08.86.
Santor also ruled the 16-17 200m butterfly, 12-17 200m individual medley, 16-17 50m butterfly, 16-17 100 butterfly and the 4x50m free relay while her lone silver came in the 16-17 200 breastroke.
Lim, for her part, dominated the girls 17-under in archery, claiming a total of six golds.
She won her first three golds in the first and second distances and double round in the individual compound qualification. She then hit the mark in her next three events, ruling the individual compound elimination, girls team and mixed team competitions.
“At first not really (expecting to sweep the events) pero sobrang happy na nakuha ko,” said Lim who expressed elation after seeing her preparation bear fruit especially after only settling for a silver and a bronze in her last Batang Pinoy.
“Tiring po yung preparation. Meron po kaming training camp one week before, shooting from 9am to 5pm close to 300 arrows,” she added.
Over at the men’s side, General Santos City swimmer Christian Isaiah Lagnason ended up tied with Baguio City archer Chass Mhaiven Colas in the most bemedalled award race with four golds each.
A false start that disqualified Lagnason despite topping the 12-12 200m butterfly proved to be too costly as it denied him what could have been his fifth gold.
As for the race for the overall championship, Pasig City is holding a slim lead over Manila and Baguio City in the 3 p.m. update of the medal tally.
The reigning champion currently boasts 28 golds, 16 silvers and 24 bronzes while the capital city has 27 golds, 25 silvers and 21 bronzes. At the third spot is Baguio with 26 golds, 14 silvers, 18 bronzes followed by Quezon City (19-18-23) and Zamboanga (15-11-3).
