University of Santo Tomas cruised past Adamson, 95-66, to clinch the first Final Four berth in the UAAP Season 88 women’s basketball tournament at Mall of Asia Arena in Pasay City Wednesday, Oct. 29.
The triumvirate of Kent Pastrana, Karylle Sierba, and Coi Danganan sparked the Growling Tigresses’ second-half surge to shoot the Lady Falcons down and go nine a row.
“I think yung final score does not say that it’s going to be easy for this season, it’s all hard work. After Season 87, we prepared for this season na mareclaim namin yung crown,” said UST head coach Haydee Ong.
"We’re on track to our target now [dahil] nasa Final Four kami ngayon. Hopefully, mag-tuloy tuloy yung wins namin this second round,” she added.
Pastrana starred for UST with 19 points, 12 rebounds, one assist, three steals, and one block, while Sierba and Danganan combined for 24 points. Rachelle Ambos added 11 points.
Elaine Etang and Cheska Apag paced Adamson with 23 and 16 points, respectively, which all went for naught as they fell to 3-6.
Meanwhile, Karl Ann Pingol powered reigning champion National University past University of the Philippines, 82-61, for its seventh straight win.
Pingol drew strength from her lackluster output against Ateneo last weekend and uncorked 16 points on top of 10 rebounds, five steals, and four assists as the Lady Bulldogs hiked their card to 7-2 at second.
“I commend the players because they adjusted quickly to how UP was defending. Generally, we are happy with this win,” said NU head coach DA Olan.
UP, on the other hand, suffered its seventh consecutive loss after a promising 2-0 start.
Earlier, Kacey dela Rosa stamped her class anew with a superb 20-20 outing to anchor Ateneo past Far Eastern University, 82-70, and improve to 6-3 and secure the solo third.
